1) What Is A Nebulizer Used For?
A nebulizer turns liquid medication into a fine mist, which may be inhaled as needed through a face mask or a mouthpiece.
Nebulizers are typically used in the treatment of asthma medications to infants and young children.
2) What Types Of Nebulizers Are There Available?
There are two main kinds of nebulizers.
Jet nebulizers use a compressor to move pressurized air through a narrow tube and an opening, thus causing a vacuum which pushes medicine out of the nebulizer.
Ultrasonic nebulizers use high-frequency sound waves to force liquid through a mesh, thus creating a fine mist.
3) What Are The Benefits Of Using A Nebulizer?
Following the ease of use of a nebulizer, more medicine tends to reach the patient. Unlike oral medications, nebulizers enable medicine to reach the lungs directly, resulting in quicker absorption of the medicine.
4) What Are The Risks Of Using A Nebulizer?
Some patients who breathe in too quickly or too deeply may experience dizziness. Patients who experience these symptoms should interrupt the treatment and rest for a while before attempting to continue.
If such symptoms persist, the patient should consult a physician.
5) Are Nebulizers Suitable For All Children?
Nebulizers are suitable for children of any age. Children below the age of four will need to use a mask to receive the medication, but children older than that can switch to mouthpiece delivery.
As children can sometimes have a hard time using inhalers or be afraid of swallowing medication, nebulizers help to ensure that compliance to medication is maintained.
Children aged four and above should be encouraged to hold their breath briefly after each inhalation to let the medication settle into the lungs properly.
6) How Do I Use A Jet Nebulizer?
Ensure you have all the necessary supplies before attempting to use the Respi-jet nebulizer. You should have:
- an air compressor
- mask of mouthpiece
- nebulizer top with suction hose
- nebulizer medicament container
- compressed air tube
- medication
Once you have all the necessary parts, observe the following instructions:
Connect mains lead
Place the air compressor on a sturdy surface strong enough to support its weight. Plug the lead from the back of the device into the wall socket.
Check operational function
Turn the green mains switch on. Make sure the compressor motor starts to run. After this is checked, turn the machine off.
Put the nebulizer together
Connect the mouthpiece to the integrated measuring vessel.
Connect the compressed air tube to the compressor, and the nebulizer.
Open the nebulizer
Turn the top of the nebulizer anticlockwise and lift up
Prepare the inhalant
Carefully measure the medicine exactly as instructed. Pour the medication into the medicament container of the nebulizer.
Close the nebulizer
Replace the top by turning clockwise slightly
Turn on the device
You should begin to see a light mist being emitted from the back of the tube opposite the mouthpiece
Ensure the mouthpiece and/or mask is worn properly
If your child is using a mouthpiece, ensure that his/her lips are closed tightly around the piece, and that he/she is not biting down on the mouthpiece.
Use the interval actuator
As your child breathes in, hold down the interval actuator to release the medicine. As your child breathes out, release the interval actuator. Keep doing this until all the medication is gone.
7) How Do I Care For My Jet Nebulizer
Clean your nebulizer in a dust and smoke-free area, away from open windows. Take note of the following pointers, to keep your nebulizer functioning properly for longer:
- After each treatment, replace the medication with pure water for a short time and generate mist to prevent the nozzle from clogging up.
- Remove excess water after the nozzle has been cleared of medicine.
- Remove the compressed air hose from the nebulizer.
- Take apart all the parts of the nebulizer.
- Boil the mask or mouthpiece, nebulizer top and nebulizer medicament container in water for 3 minutes to disinfect.
- Shake the excess water off and leave the parts to air-dry.
- Dry all equipment completely before storing in a plastic, zippered bag.
- Cover the compressor with a clean cloth when not in use.
- Wipe the compressor down as necessary with a clean, damp cloth.
- Do not put the air compressor on the floor for treatment, and do not leave it on the floor when storing.
- Ensure the air compressor’s filter is clean as directed.
- Store your medicine in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. If you observe them changing colour, or forming crystals, discard them immediately and buy new ones.
8 ) How Do I Use An Ultrasonic Nebulizer?
Ensure you have all the necessary supplies before attempting to use the AND Ultrasonic nebulizer. You should have:
- Top cover
- Mouth nozzle
- Clear housing with air control
- Moisture chamber
- Medication cup
- Main body with ultrasonic chamber and power indicator
- Ultrasonic conducting gel
- Medication
Once you have all the necessary parts, observe the following instructions:
Unplug the power cord
Make sure the AC adaptor is unplugged from the nebulizer before cleaning and prepping the nebulizer
Clean the nebulizer
Clean the mouth nozzle, medication cup, moisture chamber, and clear housing using a soft cloth and water with detergent. Never immerse the body of this equipment totally in water for cleaning.
Prepare the ultrasonic conducting gel
Place approximately 0.6g, or just enough to barely cover the bottom, of the gel on the bottom of the ultrasonic chamber, ensuring there are no air bubbles in the ultrasonic conducting gel.
Place the medicine in the medication cap.
Put the medication cup back in the ultrasonic chamber after cleaning, and pour the medicine directly into the cup.
Install the moisture chamber into the clear housing
Put the clear housing back on top of the nebulizer body
Turn on the nebulizer
Make sure the nebulizer is placed level on a desk. If necessary, the hard top cover can be raised to bring the height of the mouth nozzle higher. You should begin to see a light mist being emitted from the mouth nozzle.
Ensure the air flow is adjusted properly
Start inhalation
Hold the mouth nozzle about 2cm away from your child’s mouth as he/she inhales and exhales.
9) How Do I Care For My Ultrasonic Nebulizer?
Clean your nebulizer in a dust and smoke-free area, away from open windows. Take note of the following pointers, to keep your nebulizer functioning properly for longer:
- After each treatment, remove the clear housing and moisture chamber, and dispose of excess liquid or medication left in the cup.
- Wipe off the ultrasonic conducting gel, and clean the main body with soft paper or a damp cloth.
- Remove the air filter sponge from the case and wash it with mild detergent. Leave it to dry before replacing it.
- Clean the mouth nozzle, clear housing, air volume control, moisture chamber and medication cup with mild detergent and water.
- Boil the mouth nozzle, clear housing with air control, moisture chamber and medication cup in water for five to ten minutes to disinfect.
- Shake the excess water off and leave the parts to air-dry.
- Dry all equipment completely before putting them back together.
